Kaolin clay and green tea mud mask

Hello beautiful people!

As promised in my earlier post, I am back with a mud mask recipe.

Today, I am experimenting with a face mask using the following ingredients:

Freshly brewed green tea

Brew up a concentrated decoction of green tea and let it cool down. In fact, if you could refrigerate it for a little while, it’s even better. Using refrigerated green tea in mixing up the mask will cool down the mixture and this can be refreshing, particularly in the summers!

Green tea has a lot of advantages for the skin like reducing puffy eyes and dark circles, increasing elasticity of the skin and improving complexion and gives a natural glow among a host of other benefits.

Kaolin Clay

I learnt about kaolin clay only recently. It is not easily available in supermarkets here, but I managed to get it online.

Kaolin clay is an ivory coloured, soft cosmetic clay. It is particularly suitable for sensitive skin and helpful in treating acne too. Like all other clays, kaolin clay helps in absorbing sebum, reducing excessive oiliness and draws out dust, grime and pollution from skin and cleansing the pores.

Glycerin

Glycerin helps in retaining moisture in the skin. I usually prefer using glycerin in all my mud masks as it prevents the facial skin from becoming excessively dry as only water and clay can be extremely harsh on the skin, particularly while washing off.

You can read my earlier post on the benefits and uses of glycerin: Glycerin magic!!

Fuller’s earth or multani mitti

This clay is easily available and easy to use too. It offers a lot of skin benefits and helps in reducing sun tan if applied regularly.

You can read my earlier post on this clay for more information: All about Multani Mitti or Fuller’s Earth

Now here is what we have to do:

  1. Add one table spoon Multani mitti and the kaolin clay into a clean dry bowl
  2. Add in 3 table spoons of green tea or till u get the desired consistency
  3. Finally add 1 teaspoon glycerin
  4. Mix well and apply on face and neck. Leave on for 15 minutes or till dry

Hope you all try this mud mask this summer to keep that tan away!

Get as creative as you can and experiment with various other ingredients like sandalwood powder, turmeric, rose water, orange peel powder, coconut milk, fresh cream, oat meal, fresh yogurt, etc.

Do let me know your experience and how you improvised this basic formula!

In my next post, I will be discussing in depth the benefits and uses of green tea.
