The coconut water affair

Hi All!

Tender coconut water is a beverage I am hooked onto every summer! It has amazing health benefits due to the high mineral and vitamin content, it’s delicious and helps to restore fluids lost through sweat and thus, prevents dehydration.

This simple tropical drink also holds a lot of secrets for the skin!

Coconut water is great for hydrating and moisturizing the skin. The vitamin C and kinetin found in coconut water provide anti-ageing benefits and help in reducing pigmentation and uneven skin tone too. This miracle water is also known for its anti-bacterial properties which makes it very effective in treating acne.

As I was sipping my cool coconut water the other afternoon, I got inspired to become creative and pamper my skin with some DIY products……….Okay, I have to admit, I got a little too creative that day and ended up making a face mist, a facial massage gel and a face mask!

Here are the recipes so you can try it out too:

Hydrating face mist

1/2 cup coconut water

1/4 cup rose water

1/4 cup cucumber juice or cucumber infused water

1 table spoon aloe vera gel

Simply combine all these ingredients well and pour into a spray bottle and spray away! You can keep this mixture refrigerated and use it for up to a week. I tried it out and I just loved the rose scent and refreshing effect of cucumber.

In case you have oily skin, you can squeeze in half a lemon to counter the excessive oiliness of the skin.

You can also substitute the cucumber juice with green tea for added anti-ageing benefits!

Coconut water face mask

2 table spoons coconut water

1 table spoon rose water

2 table spoons kaolin clay/ fuller’s earth

1 table spoon honey

Add the clay to a bowl, stir in the liquids one by one to form a smooth paste. Apply on face and neck and wash off after 15 minutes.

This mask is suitable for the summers, it helps in reducing sun-tan and blemishes. The clay will form a good base for the mask. But, in case you have normal to dry skin or if you do not want to use the clay, you can instead use besan or gram flour to form the base of the pack.

Coconut water and mint face massage gel

½ cup coconut water infused with mint leaves for 20 minutes

4 table spoons drinking water

1 ½ tea spoon china grass/agar agar powder

Heat the drinking water and add the agar agar powder, wait till the powder starts dissolving. Now, combine the agar mixture and the coconut water and pop it in the refrigerator to allow it to set.

Take the mixture out after 3 hours and you will notice that the mixture has become like a soft jelly.

Apply this gel on a cleansed face and massage in circular motion. This helps in reducing stress and keeps the skin hydrated and refreshed.

Well, this is the first time I have tried out these recipes and they have worked well with my skin type.

Hope you all try these out for yourself and let me know how you felt.
