Hello summer!

summerHi there!

It’s summer time again and I am loving it!! So many fun things to do!

So, on my summer 2017 bucket list, the first thig I want to do is trek to the Valley of flowers, a pristine valley filled with beautiful flowers in the Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India. The next thing I am excited about is paragliding! I am planning to do this in Bir Billing near Dharamshala. The third and last thing I want to tick off my buck list this year is scuba diving in the Andamans!

The thing is, all these activities are definitely funnnn….but, I know my skin will not forgive me! The extreme temperatures (Its 45 degrees here as I write this post!), pollution and stress combined with travelling, trekking and diving will leave skin pigmented, tanned and either excessively dry or oily based on the skin types.

If you are also planning some interesting outdoor activities like me or just staying indoors this summer and trying to save yourself from the sun, either ways, your skin needs some tender love and care!

In this blog post I will be highlighting some simple tips to keep your skin hydrated, nourished and protected this season 😊

Water, water, everywhere!!

I cannot emphasise enough on the importance of water! This is the most vital element to obtain healthy and glowing skin. Make sure that you consume the recommended 8 glasses of water every day.

Infused water has become a personal favorite this season and I particularly enjoy the cucumber and mint infused water with a slice of lemon. The advantage with infused water is that, apart from being flavoured with the infusions, the water absorbs the minerals from the fruits/vegetables you add to it! The fun part is, you can get as creative as you want and try out various combinations.

So, keep yourself surrounded with water and drink up!

Use face mists

Using face mists is a great to keep the facial skin hydrated. You can just spritz a small amount on the face and gently dab it off. You can use various face mists available in the market, or make one on your own using rose water or green tea. It’s easy. I will be making a separate post on this soon.

Oil free make up

In case you have naturally oily skin, it is very important to remember not to use oil based products like serums, primers, sunscreens and foundations. This is because our skin tends to get oilier during summers and using oil based products may clog the pores and lead to breakouts. You can instead opt for gel based products to counter the oiliness.

Exfoliate and tone

It is generally recommended to exfoliate facial skin in the mornings using a mild scrub. This helps in unclogging the pores and removing dead skin cells.

Using a toner in summers is a must. This helps to reduce oiliness and takes care of the open pores.

Use SPF

Using sunscreen with a suitable SPF is a must. The sunscreen must be re-applied at intervals of 4 hours to ensure that you skin is always protected from the harsh UV rays. Also ensure that your lip balm also has SPF.

Intense hydrating face masks

And lastly, pamper your face with homemade face packs like sandal wood, fuller’s earth, activated charcoal and kaolin clay! You can get as creative as you can with face packs and mud masks.

My next post will be about mud masks followed by a post on whitening and brightening face masks.

Until then, enjoy the summer and take care of your skin 😊
